Industrial designer Pierre: products to please people

French/Belgian industrial designer Pierre-Yves Panis has extensive experience in three continents. He is the chief designer of Moen, a manufacturer of American bathroom and kitchen products . He has worked for DCO (non-profit organization) in South Africa for nine years, mainly using industrial design solutions to improve the production of the informal industry in Zimbabwe. He is an active member of DMI and IDSA, and is a frequent speaker in the United States and Europe, with topics including innovation leadership, design management, and pyramid design. He holds a master's degree in industrial design from Les Ateliers School in Paris and is a professor of design and business schools in Europe.

[Reporter]: Hello, Mr. Pierre, can you briefly summarize your design philosophy?

[Pierre]: Simple, beautiful and easy to use, this is his most basic design concept. The product I design is to please people, that is, to make the end user happy to use it, and to feel happy and happy in the process of using it, this is my most basic principle. What I care about is that this thing is not only when I use it, I feel very happy, I also feel very happy when I see it, this is a very simple principle of mine. [Reporter]: You have been to China a few times. In addition to the lectures for us, what time will we go to China?

[Pierre]: There is a design center in Shenzhen. This design center is to do some product development. This time, more Chinese people have to communicate with colleagues working in China to better improve our information. The products of the Legrand Group. The second goal of coming to China is to see as many customers as possible, including developers, architects, and interior designers. Yesterday I also had a share. It was a high-end customer real estate sharing event organized by the Legrand Group. It was a VIP open day. He shared it with the developers as a shareholder.

[Reporter]: After coming to China, what aspects of China's design are more concerned about?

[Pierre]: A lot of things, I am interested in many things after coming to China. Architecture, furniture, including some new fashion trends are all very concerned about him. But I may not come to China very often, once a year or twice a year, but my trend towards fresh things in China is very worthy of attention.

[Reporter]: I have listened to the previous lecture. I think that Legrand's prediction is very accurate. For example, you designed an intelligent system product in 2004. At that time, the iphone was not popular. After a few years, it became popular. When this product is put on the market, where are the inspirations for these predictions coming from?

[Pierre]: All the inspiration comes from the fact that we spend a lot of time to see how people use this thing. One thing you have to believe is that we are professional in our industry, we pass To observe how people use this product in their daily lives, we are thinking about how to simplify its use and make it easier for him to do. I think Apple should do the same.
