Crown Holdings Ltd., a packaging product supplier headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, recently announced that Tropicana is bringing the innovative IDEALTM cap supplied by the Crown Metal Cover Division to its new 1.75liter PET bottle package for its Pure PremiumTM orange juice product. This technology combines metal and plastic features to provide barrier protection and easier opening.

The IDEALTM cover is a unique combination of metal sheet (designed to prevent oxygen infiltration) and plastic tape. The easy-to-grip plastic exterior, together with the “collapse” of the anti-theft strap before the sealing strip opens, is very convenient for the consumer. Due to the reduced friction between the cover gasket and the container, opening such a cover requires less rotational force than a standard cover.

Don Greenwood, Sr., packaging manager at Tropicana, said that they chose the IDEALTM lid because of its excellent preservation characteristics. Because this is a nostalgic package to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company's natural fruit juices formulated with non-concentrated juices, the unique look provided by the caps is truly in line with the packaging concept of the product.

The metal caps covered with plastisol are beautifully decorated and provide sealed integrity with superior barrier functions. No extra internal seal is required, it allows the consumer to easily open the package and dump the contents.

To accommodate the bottle's exposure, Crown offers IDEALTM in a 63 mm size. Although primarily used for the packaging of sauces, jams, or peanuts, this diameter IDEALTM cap was the first Pure PremiumTM orange juice to be used in liquid products - Tropicana. Printed in bright orange, the caps are in perfect harmony with Tropicana's other packaging. This cover can fit plastic and glass containers and is suitable for a variety of filling processes, including hot injection, pasteurization and other treatments.
