On the morning of July 18, 2016, the 2016 US Republican National Convention (RNC) officially kicked off in Cleveland, Ohio, and local companies hope that this meeting will bring huge economic benefits to them. In addition to money, for some small, less well-known companies, this meeting is also a good time to get into the public eye. Freshmade 3D, a 3D printing services agency specializing in the production of rare car parts in Youngstown, Ohio, clearly seized the opportunity to print a life-size Trump doll for RNC 3D.
The project was completed in collaboration with Freshmade 3D, Youngstown State University and Humtown Products and was supported by the non-profit Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber. The doll is 7 feet tall and weighs 300 pounds. In fact, Bitram is bigger. According to Rich Wetzel, coordinator of the Youngstown Business Incubator, the body of the printed doll was spent 30 hours, and the printed material was fiberglass reinforced sand. The print material on the head was plastic and it took 225 hours to print. The infamous Donald's hair is printed separately from the head. In addition, the entire doll is also coated with a layer of aluminum. It is estimated to be worth about $35,000.
The Trump Shaking Head doll was placed outside the Quicken Loans Arena. The Quick Loan Arena is both the home of the Cleveland Cavaliers and the center of the RNC. It exudes sparkling silver and looks at passers-by with a gaze, ready to nod to them. It is impossible for people passing by to not notice it, and this is exactly what the creator wants. Throughout the week, representatives from Freshmade 3D, Regional Chamber and Humtown Products will stand next to the shaking head doll and provide 3D printing information for anyone interested.
Thanks to the promotion of this project, Freshmade 3D has grown in business. According to Wetzel, Freshmade 3D received more orders for auto parts on the site than usual; in the near future, the promotion and the resulting benefits are likely to increase even more, because in addition to this week's Trump shaking head dolls, Freshmade 3D and its partners will also print a life-size Hillary Clinton shaking head doll for the first presidential debate in Dayton, Ohio this September.
“What I want to see in the end is that no matter who wins the presidential election, we can invite us to the White House. We will make a beautiful press conference to let people know that the Mahoning Valley is the center of 3D printing. Guy Coviello, vice president of government affairs at the Regional Chamber, told Business Journal.
